Our local Volunteer Marine Search and Rescue team works extremely hard to keep everyone safe out on the lake. Below they are doing training exercises onboard multiple Twin Anchors houseboats recovering patients from different areas of the houseboat. With their hard work and training it helps keep the Shuswap lake safe!
Currently all houseboaters at Twin Anchors Houseboat Vacations go through a safety orientation and the Rental Boat Safety Checklist (RBSC), which shows them how to operate the houseboat, drive the houseboat, safety features and hazards of boating.🚤 This allows customers the ability to ask questions and get to know their boat before leaving dock in order to get the most of their houseboating adventure safely!🏖
Under current legislation this safety orientation, Rental Boat Safety Checklist (RBSC), paperwork and our registration process acts as a temporary boaters license for the houseboat for the duration of the trip. Currently, the government and Transport Canada are looking towards changing this legislation and requiring all renters for all rental watercraft to have a boaters license.
This petition is important to Twin Anchors Houseboat Vacations and many other boat rental companies in Sicamous and Canada. The proposed changes to the current legislation of boat rental companies on a federal level require anyone renting a watercraft of any size to have a boaters license. This will be an extra step all renters will be required to take before being able to enjoy any of the rentals Twin Anchors has or any other companies have to offer. This will also cost people extra as they will be required to pay for the boaters license and complete the course/tests (minimum of 3 hrs) before being able to rent. Not only will this legislation affect rental companies in every aspect, but it will make it harder for customers to rent houseboats and other watercrafts. Boat rental companies and Twin Anchors Houseboats need your signatures and support, so that we can continue to operate under the RBSC and make it easy to provide people with amazing adventures and get people out enjoying the water as much as possible!
Please share this petition to assist all rental companies and show your support for other small businesses. Thank you for your support!😄

I agree with having a boating license. You don't learn enough in the orientation. These boats are hard to maneuver in the river as well as to dock at the store, etc. Also, there are idiots out there that still pass the orientation and still cant drive and dock/beach properly. I think you guys are just worried about losing profits due to people not wanting to bother getting a Boating License and therefore rent a houseboat.
The boaters license I have taken does not give you any hands on with steering a boat, or how to dock etc.

They should change the boating course as it really teaches you nothing about how to operate a boat. It is not practical for your average pleasure craft operator.
Forget the boating license, how about fast tracking repeat captains that have taken the orientation and rented the houseboats about 20+ times?
I agree houseboat renters should have to have a boating license for boating etiquette and the safety of everyone on the water and and an orientation to learn how to operate the boat properly, two completely different things. And maybe clamp down on the consumption of alcohol on house boats while they are in transit. I have seen some so drunk on houseboats they can barely stand up when we’ve out on the water, doesn’t matter if its a passenger or operator the law is no alcohol until it is anchored or moored; it’s no different than with a motor vehicle but it is never enforced of course.
What’s your policy on out of province renters right now?
I figure getting a proper licence first is quite important. A quick and hasty orientation by a summer student does not do the job in my opinion. And, yes, I am a boater and I do have my licence.
