HOUSEBOATING 101

YOUR ARRIVAL

(1) You will be greeted by our friendly hosts, who will direct your parking and initiate your registration in Lot E. 

(2) You will check-in at the office, where necessary information will be provided to the Captain and Co-Captain to assure a safe and enjoyable vacation.

(3) Once your boat is available the hosts will arrange to have our complimentary porter service transport your gear to the houseboat.

(4) The captain and co-captain will receive their orientation onboard the houseboat.

(5) Following a successful training and load up, you will park your vehicles in Lot E and before you know it, you’ll be enjoying a classic Shuswap experience onboard your Twin Anchors houseboat.

HOUSEBOAT ORIENTATION

You will learn a lot about the operation of your houseboat in 45 minutes. We recommend you appoint a few first mates to review the “How To” videos (linked below) and operation manual (listed below) prior to your arrival at our marina. The more you know, the more enjoyable your houseboat vacation will be.

We want everyone to have fun on their houseboat vacation. However, it is important to remember a few things to keep everyone safe.

STARTING  THE HOUSEBOAT

How to operate your radio onboard a Twin Anchors Houseboat. See Manual for more details. Main radio hours: 8:00am – 6:00pm, outside this timeframe is EMERGENCY USE ONLY. Please watch that you don’t say anything bad on the boat-to-base channel or you may be fined.

STORM PROCEDURE

Being in a storm on a houseboat may seem scary, but the boats are built strong and they won’t sink. Follow these instructions to ensure your boat remains undamaged and perpendicular to the beach if you’re parked ashore.

DRIVING FROM THE TOP DECK

How to drive from the top deck on your Twin Anchors Houseboat. Ensure you are only driving from the top deck in open water and all crew are onboard before starting the boat.

BEACHING THE BOAT

Whether you are a master mariner, or it is your first time as a captain, beaching a houseboat can seem intimidating. Follow along with our talented crew to find out how to properly beach your houseboat to shore.

LESSON EIGHT

FUEL TRANSFER PROCEDURE

How to Transfer Fuel onboard your Twin Anchors Houseboat. Ensure your engine and generator are both off before transferring fuel. Fuel Transfer steps are also included in your operation manual.

LESSON NINE

RETURN TO DOCK PROCEDURE

How to return to dock at the end of your vacation. Note the checklist (at the end of the video) to help make your return to dock as quick and efficient as possible. There are also instructions in the operation manual onboard to guide you through the process.

LESSON TEN

CO, PROPANE, GAS, & LOW VOLT DETECTORS

Onboard all Twin Anchor Houseboats are Carbon Monoxide, Propane Gas, and Low Voltage detectors. Don’t be alarmed if any of these go off during your vacation. This video will help better understand why each alarm might go off during your trip. Find the full instructions to these detectors in the manual onboard as well.

LESSON ELEVEN

HOT TUB FILL, DRAIN & HEAT PROCEDURE

This video will assist you with draining, filling and heating the hot tub. The hot tub is a common spot some people have issues so we also have a hot tub troubleshooting video.

The easiest thing is to follow the steps in the video or the steps in the operation manual these will guide you to get that hot tub going whenever your crew likes!

LESSON TWELVE

WATER PUMP AIRLOCK PROCEDURE

If you end up with an air-locked water pump(s) by driving with the water pump on, you may need to follow this procedure to get water going throughout the houseboat again. This process should be paired with the manual onboard to ensure it is done correctly. After removing the airlock ensure you TURN OFF your water pump breakers well driving. Full instructions are located in the manual.

LESSON THIRTEEN

HOT TUB TROUBLE SHOOTING

This video will go over different problems and solutions to get your hot tub working again should you run into problems. This video paired with the instructions in the operation manual is the easiest way to troubleshoot the problems with your hot tub.

Some issues covered in the video: How to get the hot tub filling if it won’t. How to get it heating with troubleshooting tips depending on the situation.
